CLASS OVERVIEW
what:       ANCIENT HEBREW
when:      April 19th
time:       Thursdays 7:00 - 8:30 pm
place:      TBA (depends on number of students)
costs:      Tuition:  $120 per person; $195 per couple; families of 3+ add $10 per child 10-17.  Optional student package is $38.  Modern Hebrew workbook (required) is $20.
registration:  deadline is March 22, 2010.  I will give a 5% discount to those who register by February 29th.

The next Ancient Hebrew class will be a 13-week course.  Class will meet each Thursday from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.  Our meeting place is not set, but I am looking at the dining hall at the Boundary County Fairgrounds (please contact me for directions). There is an optional textbook package and a required workbook.

There will be ten weeks of lessons and a two tests (the eighth and 12th week). Between weeks one and two we will have a movie night with popcorn, and yes, it is required.  the 13th week we will have a graduation party/kosher* potluck, where you can invite your family and friends to join in.  The exact timing for the party will be on a Thursday as usual, but will start an hour earlier (6:00 pm).

Please be aware that it is the student's responsibility to remember to show up for class on time.  Students who are ill or have an emergency will be given opportunity to make up a missed class and gain current notes.

This course is NOT where you go to learn conversational Hebrew.  It is a foundational teaching in the ancient script.  You will learn a little history, the alphabet, what each letter means, how these letters work in Holy Scripture, and you will learn your first basic words and roots.  There will be some biblical insights along the way. We will briefly learn about the Feasts of YHWH**, and go into the Modern alphabet the last four weeks.  Yes, there will be a little homework.  This teaching will help encourage you toward a deeper, independent study of YHWH's Word in its original, Hebraic mindset.

Ages 10 and up are welcome to attend.  Parents, you know your children best, so I will leave it up to you to decide if this class is something they are ready for.  I do have a final exam made specifically for younger students.  As for younger children, your arrangement for a sitter is greatly appreciated.  Infants too young for sitters may accompany their mothers.

The registration form, class schedule and flyer can be accessed below in the attachments section.  Please check back to see if I have posted anything new.  Feel free to print these out and hand them to friends who might benefit from this course.  Post them on a bulletin board or hand them out at your home congregation.

On the topic of tuition: the cost is $120 per person, $195 per couple, and families of 3+ add $10 per child between the ages of 10 and 17.  An optional package is available for $38 each.  The package consists of a book, helpful CD, handy flip chart, and a set of flash cards.  There is a required workbook for the Modern Hebrew portion of the course, which is $20.  For your convenience, you may pay for your tuition and/or textbook package(s) via credit card or PayPal by clicking on "Make A Payment" (also on menu, above).  Or, you can write a check, making it out to Laura Compton, and sending it to PO Box 667, Bonners Ferry, ID   83805.  Cash is fine, too, if you plan on seeing me in person.  You may also arrange to make three or four payments, if necessary (last payment is due by the first class).

Registration deadline is (March 22, 2012) four weeks before the first class.  It currently takes four weeks to receive workbooks and student packages, thus the deadline.  Packages are non-refundable.  Pro-rated tuition refunds will be granted until the end of the third class.

Please note that I am teaching these courses independently and am not affiliated with any schools or universities.  These courses do not grant any college credits.  They are for your own personal growth and enjoyment.  Remember to leave your Greek mindset at the door, wipe your feet, have a seat, and enjoy this time of learning.

*kosher--see Leviticus 11--Kosher animals that are meant as food:  any animal having both completely cloven hooves and chews the cud; any water creature having both fins and scales; birds such as chicken, turkey, grouse, duck, pheasant and goose.  Some examples of animals that are not meant as food:  bear, cat, dog, horse, ostrich, seagul, birds of prey, shellfish, crustaceans, camels, swine, rabbit, squirrel and badger (that's thrown in for all of the Bonners Ferry-ites).
**YHWH-- this is the 4-letter name of the Father.   We will learn more about the Sacred Name in class.

I am currently working on the syllabus. The class was originally only 8 weeks long and did not involve Modern Hebrew, so I am adapting it. Thanks for your patience as I finish this for you.
